AWMAC Apprenticeship Contest 2008
AWMAC Ontario Chapter hosted their
annual Apprenticeship Contest at Conestoga College on Saturday,
February 16, 2008. Student contestants were Jonas Norrie, Victoria
Coverdale, David Lock, Craig Dekeyser, Darren Gander, Matthew Wiesel,
Juan Corral and Jeremy Camplin. Materials were donated by Mirmil
Products. First prize of $500 sponsored by AWMAC Ontario went to
Jonas Norrie. Second prize of $250 was sponsored by Blum Canada
and went to David Lock. Third prize of $100 was sponsored by Precision
Veneer and went to Darren Gander. Special thanks to Conestoga College
for hosting the event and Allan Sparling, Sylvia Sparling, Hillary
Sparling, Martin Grinwis, Keith Randall, Marco Mueller, Dylan Kinch,
Al Broekema and Jim McGregor for organizing and helping during the
event.


AWMAC Apprenticeship Contest 2007
AWMAC Ontario Chapter hosted their
annual apprenticeship contest at the Woodworking Centre of Ontario
in Kitchener on Saturday, February 10, 2007. Seven apprentice students
took up the challenge to construct the contest cabinet #2 within
the allotted 9 hours. Participating in the contest were Tyson Flintoft,
Eddie Waller, Colin Devilliers, Norman Dupuis, Zach Hewitt, James
MacDonald and Gurmohan Lota. The cabinets were judged by AWMAC Ontario
president Carlo DeFrancesco and Conestoga College Professor Martin
Grinwis. Many thanks to Conestoga College Professor and AWMAC Ontario
Past President Alan Sparling, Keith Raandall and students Josh Hoogland
and Greg MacDonald for organizing the event.
Contest materials were donated by
Mirmil Products. Many thanks to Travis Walker for delivering cabinet
materials to Conestoga College.
First place prize of $500.00 was sponsored
by AWMAC Ontario Chapter and was awarded to Colin Deviliers. Second
place prize of $250.00 was sponsored by Blum Canada and was awarded
to Zach Hewitt. Third place prize of $200.00 was sponsored by Taurus
Craco Machinery and was awarded to Gurmohan Lota.
The winning cabinet from each participating
AWMAC chapter will be shipped to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where it
will be entered into AWMAC's national contest in May. Many thanks
to the students that participating in the event.
